Workeh!!

It was costume day at work today. I found that out 10 minutes before I was supposed to be in. Non-uniform was mandatory.

Of course I freaked out and reached for the black.

After these pics were taken, I changed my nametag to "Sunshine" and put handcuffs on my belt.

That's all my accessiories. I call this the "metal crotch shot".

RAAAA, I eat you with my angst!! PAY YOU LATE FEES!!

uh-huh. It's fake.

So, all the guys avoided me, and all the women treated my like ususal. Huh.

I'll post pics of the other people later. Maybe. Hmmm.

BWAHAHA

I know have what I need to start learning very basic ASL. Gah, I love starting a new language.

Went to Borders, got distracted in the music section. Bought four books, 2 CDs and the 4disc ASL CD-ROM.

MMMMM, consumer whore.

Hey BDM, Rose says I need to force you to come visit sometime in the next month since you're relatively close by.

::Edit After Work::
*sings* BA-lloon!! BA-lloon!

Hehehe...my new victimfavorite customer came in again today. We actually had a very basic conversation. He oh-so-kindly pointed out that I had forgotten to remove the lock on the movie I gave him yesterday. I implied that I was very sorry and told him he would get a free movie. He nodded happily, then proceeded to tell me he was glad the Cards were winning because he was a big fan. I nodded in agreement and waved goodbye, and he walked out the door and bounced around in the parking lot for a little while.

All without a word. I danced.

Mad Goal

I have two weeks to learn enough American Sign Language to have a basic conversation with a deaf guy at my work. I am in lvoe with him, and the truth must come out.

Actually, I just hate language barrers of any sort. And I'd like the look of mild relief when he sees me to become one of joy because he knows there won't be awkward confusion. Right now he knows I recongnize him and am patient enough to deal with him. I'd like to also be able to talk...

MMMM, Borders, here I come.

I'm not sure this counts as evil, but it is a plot.

The End of Ikasu

I don’t think I’ve ever been so social in my life. Four days of non-stop being around people, interacting with people…I think I would have had a nervous breakdown if the con had gone on any longer. I need to go back through my journals and find when this reclusive tendency of mine began. Maybe if I find the trigger I can stop freaking out.

The worst moment of Ikasu: In the airport, walking up the catwalk between terminals 2 and 3, trying to find my way to the Information Center in the Delta area. I was a nervous wreck, I was tired, I was cranky, and my mp3 player was refusing to play Prince. Absolutely refusing. I was certain everyone was going to hate me, and I felt like I was going to puke.

The best moment of Ikasu: I’m going to stick to situations with objects and not people. I can’t think of a single favorite experience with you guys, and I’m too lazy to type all the good ones out. But finding Key the Metal Idol was the highlight of the materialistic aspect of the con.

The most pathetic moment of Ikasu: Looking around the room at everyone and realizing that we are all on our computers. Not just on them. In the same chat room. Having conversations with each other via AIM. And yet the room is totally silent. I looked around and realized I am a big loser because I found it easier to type to these people than talk to them. That happened less each night, however. So I guess we all got used to each other. But Thinman was right—we DO spend too much time on the computer.

The scariest moment of Ikasu: Well, aside from Rae and his LLAMA *cringe*, it was probably the ten minutes before we had to leave the airport when I could find neither my driver’s license nor my debit card. I was freaking out. I was trying not to cry. I was eating things. Karmically. I did find them right when we had to leave, tho. I had put them in a different pocket than usual in my backpack. Because I’m almost blind, I have usual places for things, and I never think to check to see if they might be anywhere else. Not in my pocket? Not on the table by the lamp? They must have fallen out. Time to go to the front desk.

Or maybe it was being one of two females at the hentai panel and not having a problem with it.

The evilest moment of Ikasu: My multiple plots to steal BDM’s (sister’s) Ein.

The most ticklish moment of Ikasu: SHARPIE TUMMY DRAWING!!! WAI!!

And now here I am, typing this in the airport of Cincinatti, which I am still not spelling right, waiting for a plane that leaves in an hour. Yes, I did get frisked at security. No, this time they did NOT check for crack. But I got felt up quite a lot because of the metal buckles on my pants(u). At least the lady was nice. My plane is going to be yet another pack of gum, too, so I’m not going to get to use my laptop. Stupid weak-ass tray tables. I guess I’ll read Love Hina and ZAAMM. It will be too loud for my mp3 player.

Thank you, Impy, for driving us around and putting up with us teasing you mercilessly about Poe. Thank you for the fucktastic backrub, too. And the tummy drawing. Poe, thank you for not being too afraid of us fanboys. I will not ever forgive you for not bringing your box of Exploitation Now comics, tho. For that, my ghost shall haunt you through the ages. Jas, thank you for your mad wrestling skills. Bastard. *grin*. Also for all the anime and music you loaned/supplied me. Mister B, thanks for not always stealing the covers and for at least trying to like anime. You commie bedmate. Dirk, thank you for the rides, the Thai experience, and the manga. Skjie, thanks for bringing the hat, letting me un-build and rebuild your shoe, and for letting me draw all over you. Also thank you for being a camera paparazzi. Rae…I cannot thank you for the llamas. I suppose I shall have to thank you for not being uber-scary man like you are on the forums. And the drunken impression of me. BDM, your scratchy voice was fun to listen to, and I enjoyed drawing all over your arm. Also thank you for letting me briefly pretend Ein was mine. And Thinny, thanks for the boots, the red hair, and the chance to be practically useless when you needed to work on your truck.

I have to say I kinda don’t want to go back to real life. I would have gone insane if I had stayed around you all any more because I am such an antisocial person and I need my alone time, but it was a lot of fun being able to sleep whenever, hang out with random people, and be a total moron *cough*hentai panel*cough* with all of you. I liked all of you a lot, which makes me happy, and I’d hang out with any of you again. Keep that in mind if you’re ever bored and near Seattle/STL. Or have money to blow on tickets.

GAH!!!

I are bruised and my hands is hurted. I am also tired. But there is pizza on the way. Albeit for the second day in a row, but as one of two girls in the midst of a mass of guys at an anime convention, I don't really have a say. And, well...pizza ish guuuuud.

Speaking of pizza, I saw hentai last night.

I'm sitting here happily typing away with a very bored blog spy to my left and my right.

Life is good.

No Rest For The Wicked

I have been awake since 10:30 on Wednesday. It is now 3-something on Friday. Why the lack of sleep?

Blame Ikasu.

I had to work Wednesday night. And, thanks to the wonderful intervention of Fam, I was unable to pack beforeheand due to a lack of suitcase. So I got home at midnight, typed an e-mail, packed, and cleaned my room, then finally went to bed at 2:30 AM Thursday morning. I was due to be at the airport at 6.

Well. I was juuuuust drifting off around 3 AM when I notice the lights going on in the kitchen. Thanks to the damn glass wall every time lights go on in there my room lights up, too. I roll over sleepily to ignore it, but then I am jolted to full alertness by this CLANKING. And it hits me: Fam is unloading the dishwasher. At freaking 3AM. I got up, opened the door, and told her to stop. Fairly politely, for me, since I hate being woken up involuntarily above all other things. I said "I just fell asleep. Could you not bang the dishes around and maybe read a book or something?" She replied "I can't sleep." I say "Neither can I. Go figure. But see, I want to."

So then she goes off to do something moderately less loud, and I am left to be wide awake and completely freaking out about 'meeting' so many new people. I fall back asleep at 4 and catnap for an hour. Back fully awake at five, then more partial sleep until the alarm goes off at 6.

Off to the airport. I would have slept on the plane, but I was on a dual-propeller 10-seater hell-thing that whined too loudly for me to even be able to hear my mp3 player.

And of course I couldn't sleep during the day. There were people to meet and hang out with and torment an stuff.

And then the night, yeah, you'd think I could, but my last roommmate comes in at 4AM and he wants us to be awake to help him find stuff just in case. Stuff being the room.

And I have to be at the airport at 6AM to get Baron.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Victolly!

For a day that started with me running into the shower door, it went well. Except now that we're out of soup, I want it.

Happy Birthday, Abigale! Yes, a day late, but I just now realized it wasn't July 8th.

Old Post Up

Finally finished my rant about work. Scroll down. it's titled "Karma".

My Own Country

I'm Caff. For those who don't know. Vass is an Aussie. Let the witty banter begin.

Vass: oh, out of curiosity, which are you? puritan or religious nutjob? Since I'm apparently a criminal.
Wren: I'm the other one.
Vass: and pray tell, what is the other one?
Caff: the one that hates the other two.
Vass: *ponders* except that you just agreed that the US is entirely made up of puritans and religious nutjobs...
Caff: yes, so?
Vass: so that would preclude there being a third option....
Caff: right
Vass: unless you wish to start denying that you're a US citizen
Caff: yes.
Vass: so would you care to inform me of which nation you are a citizen?
Caff: me!
Vass: I highly doubt that you're an independent nation...
Caff: I am indeed. I have my own tax rate adn everything.
Vass: defense force?
Caff: as you've seen
Vass: *nods* very crappy immune system. might want to increase your defense spending....
Vass: so is the independent nation of whatever you've decided to call it self-sufficient?
Caff: I rely heavily on imports.
Vass: of course. what's the population growth rate like?
Vass: or are you pursuing ZPG?
Caff: population growth is me.
Vass: okay... ZPG...
Vass: immigration?
Caff: isn't that a bit personal? ^_^
Vass: *laughs* only if you wish to take it that way ^_^
Vass: so what're the major industries?
Caff: large-scale organization, literature
Vass: large-scale organisation? sounds like consultation crap...
Caff: feh.
Vass: so what about literature then?
Caff: we export satire.
Vass: ahh... generic satire or is it more concentrated at particular people and groups?
Caff: depends on the angst production.
Vass: and is that generally high?
Caff: depends on international political climate.
Vass: how international? UN level international or more on the personal level of international?
Caff: when you're one person, everything is international.
Vass: very true, however not everyone else considers themselves their own nation...
Caff: well...yes.
Vass: so international confrontations can therefore be on the macro level(on nation against another), or the micro level (one nation against a member or members of another nation)...
Caff: micro level, generally
Vass: ahh... does it ever lead to low level warfare?
Caff: yes.
Vass: of course. silly question
Caff: indeed.
Vass: so do you get many tourists? or is that on a security level akin to immigration?
Caff: My country occasionally allows photo safaris.
Caff: *giggle*
Vass: as long as they aren't nude photo safaris
Caff: my country has never hosted a nude photo safari.
Vass: ahh... but you still get lots of tourists?
Caff: we limit our tourism.
Vass: very limited?
Caff: my country prefers to find other methods of income.
Vass: and blackmail? ^_^
Caff: only on a micro scale
Vass: ah, of course
Vass: so can your nation keep the entire populace employed?
Caff: yes. My nation has no problems finding a job.
(After death of AIM) Vass: trying to kill your computer?
Caff: my intelligence system briefly failed.

The Best Conversation I've Ever Had With Rose

Wren: hey Rose, you owe me sex, bitch.
Rose: HEY!
Rose: ok
Rose: Nyahahaha!
Wren: ooo, that was easy.
Rose: did you see the knife you got me? yes, it was easy!
Wren: I don't really like the idea of owing anyone sex...
Wren: except you.
Wren: *laughs*
Rose:*giggle* - of course you don't like owing anyone sex. It's just funny.
Rose: lets move to vermont!
Wren: sweet!

...

Rose: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Rose: oh my god, lets back up here
Wren: aww, that laughter hurts me deep inside.
Wren: can we back up to the vermont thing?
Rose: knives... make you drool.
Rose: see! You Like Sex.
Rose: I'm gonna make you a sign
Wren: WHAT.
Rose: Lol. no, i'm not, relax
Wren: WARNING: I Like SEX.
Rose: in a way, i envy you because you get to appreciate people. only i don't envy anyone. i need to think of a word for that
Wren: "appreciate people"...is that some new euphemism...
Rose: no!
Wren: *laughs*
Rose: you know, enjoy other people! Shut up!!
Wren: ok, ok.....
Rose: shuuut uuuuuuup!
Wren:
Rose: what did you just type?

Karma.

Well, today started out fantastically well. I ended up 1,600 richer than I thought I would be. The first hour of my morning was literally spent finding money I didn't know I had.

Of course I had to have my share of "fuuuck, I'm rippingmyhairout", too.

So now, though I have been trying to avoid it, I feel I must rant about what has been happening at work.

Monday night we had a really bad storm. My power didn't go out (it flickered and briefly ended a rather fun phone call, tho), but large sections of the city lost power. A lot of people didn't get theirs back until Thursday night.

I didn't think too much of this, tho, since I wasn't affected. Yeah, sure, a few street lights were out and whole roads were closed down due to large trees having fallen down across them, but I figured most people were pretty fine. I get a call on Tuesday tho, while out knife shopping with Rose, and my aunt tells me that my work is powerless. I immediately want to cry. See, Blockbuster can't close. We have movies to check in. If we don't check them in, people get late fees they don't deserve. So a power outage means NOTHING. We still have to find a way to work. And since we'd be there anyway trying to find a way to check in movies, Blockbuster will greedily insist that we also check OUT movies. Manually. By hand. Which means entering them into the computer later. Also, to do manual checkout, we can only rent to people who actually have cash and a Blockbuster card on them. For some reason this simple logic seems to escape people. How the FUCK can we track our movies without your account number? And no, I am NOT going to just trust your ass when you say you rent here all the time. And, asshole, how do you expect us to use your giftcard when we have NO FUCKING POWER? Geez, people are dumb!

So I get to work Wednesday, and luckily we got our power back at 11:30 the night before, but we can't use the computers still, because the computers think it's Monday. See, the power went out Monday night, so the closing shift didn't get to run Daily. See, Daily is the process that balances the computer and processes reports, then gets ready for the next day. If daily isn't run, you can't use the computer the next day. So on Wednedsay night when I came in Daily for Monday had just finished, so we got to continue checking things out manually until Daily for Tuesday was done. Which took two hours.

So now that Daily was done, the computers were technically usable, but before we could start checking out movies, we had to start checking them in. That job fell to me. I got to FOS (found on shelf command-no fees credited to account) the 300-odd movies that had accumulated during the power outage. After that, I got to check in all the ones that had been dropped off from 12 o clock on. It was 10PM at that point. Once all that was caught up, I was able to use one drawer to check people out, and my MOD used the other one to enter in all the manual checkouts. Ever done tax by hand? It sucks, motherfuckers. But we were always within 1 penny of the real price. *mild pride*

Luckily, it wasn't too busy that night, so while the MOD was trying to finish up computer crap, I was running cart after cart of movies. I got about 300 done. Which left another 200 for the opening shift. Which was one person. I left a note saying they could call me in if need be. I could use the money, anyway.

So I managed to get everything straightened, cleaned, and stocked, also, and MOD finished processing the manual checkouts at 11:58. I locked the door, and we started settling the accounts and running Wednesday's daily. We were headed out the door at about 12:30, but then we discover that out alarm had been fried during the outage. It took us until 1:06 to get out of the store.

I did get called in on Thurs, so I went in for three hours and finished running movies. We were all caught up.

Well, then FRIDAY comes. The satellites went down and the computers froze, so it was back into manual checkout mode. And it was busy, and people were pissy. I was also the one who got to process the checouts once our comps got back up because the MOD was new and a total imcompetent under pressure. She was spazzing out during the whole thing, which stressed ME out, and annoyed the customers. She hung up on computer support twice and left me up front to handle everything for at least an hour. Then, at 11:45, instead of helping me fucking straighten and stock soda and do trash, she gets a phone call and talks on the phone for 15 minutes. So I did all the damn closing duties AND caught the store back up, and she just freaked out and smoked a lot of cigarrettes. I am SO PISSED OFF about this. We FIRED D-Rick, why did we get another one?

Feh. That is all.

Hmm, she's making a list!

My aunt seems to think that badly bruised pears are the ones to buy, so I have to make a grocery store run tomorrow. Before work today I also have to run by the bank and deposit a check. That will give me all the money I need for Ikasu. And then some. Grand.

Things I need to scrounge up from the house:
1) my dream book
2) Henna book
3) Senior photos
4) nail polish remover
5) suitcase

Things I need to buy:
1) new jeans. my old ones are dying.
2) new henna paste. mmm, macrosun is my friend.
3) the last Lain DVD.
4) One album from iTunes (tbd).

Todo list:
1) Mail off the money order, already.
2) sort through college info. really. I'm doing that tonight. (Remind me....)
3) laundry.
4) must organize music more....

The Idiot's Guide to Finding Me at Work

AT 5:00, when the shift starts:
Still driving to work. Possibly getting into my car. Yes, all you people who IM me have a LOT to do with this. I'm the one in traffic with the windows down no matter what the weather is and blissfully blessing the surrounding area with her current musical obsession.

WHEN IT'S BUSY:
If active seller-I'm the one off in a corner glaring at customers and muttering to herself. I'm wearing a dorky red apron and my nametag is probably on upside down.
If cashier-I'm the one in the blue shirt who is looking you in the eyes and telling you that yes, you WILL be paying your late fees. I am also probably being a cold hard bitch to the young blonde boy in the pink shirt who is trying to hit on me. And his friends are snickering. If you're not sure enough, I'm the one who's knees crack when she crouches to get stuff out of the drop box.

WHEN IT'S EMPTY: Sitting on the floor watching TV. Or sitting underneath the security camera on the counter eating/reading a magazine. They can't see me. They have no proof. BWAHAHA. It is also possible that I am out on the floor talking to some of our regular late-night customers/my friends. If I am in my khaki pants, rest assured that they are falling down and my shirt is coming untucked. If I am in my skirt, I am probably holding boxcutters and grinning ominously at incoming customers.

AFTER 8PM: Sitting in my car in the parking lot, blissfully listening to music and enjoying fifteen minutes of peace.

IF MY STALKER COMES IN: In the back. With a walkie talkie. Awaiting an "all clear". You'll know if I'm back there, because there will be bad singing coming from the talkie up front.

AFTER CLOSE: I'm the one dancing in drama with my mp3 player on. Yes, I look like an ass. Yes, we are closed. I'm also probably the one telling you to go away. Stop tapping on the glass.

Well then!

It's back to the normal way of doing things. In bed, with laptop. Sleep. Wake up. In bed with laptop. Sleep...work, sometimes, get up for food...

hehehe.

::EDIT BEFORE WORK::
mmm, since everyone is gone I'm sitting in the living room draped across the Morphine Chair. SO COMFORTABLE. Tea is brewing in the kitchen and I'm organizing all the music Rupe and Jas gave me. Cue more zen-like calm.

7.06.2004

I AM NEVER USING FEDEX AGAIN

So I wake up today to discover that they've pushed off the arrival of the Ubermachine until 4:30 tomorrow. I am no longer zen-like and calm. I am ready to start breaking some things.

::EDIT AFTER CALLING FEDEX::
Well, at least I know they didn't actually try to deliver it to Indiana like the website says they did.

::EDIT IMMEDIATELY AFTER EDIT::
Ok, zen-like calm has returned. I'm gonna go knife shopping.

::EDIT AFTER KNIFE SHOPPING::
There's a door tag that says I can pick it up...but the phone lady said its in Indiana.

::EDIT AFTER LONG DRIVE DOWN HANLEY::
GOT IT!!

::FINAL EDIT::
Great...now they won't play nice. Time to redo the network.

7.05.2004

mmm, the last morning of peace

I'm actually easting breakfast. Generally I'm not up early enough to eat breakfast foods. But today decided to be special. There was another thunderstorm around 8 AM and I had to wake up and reset my alarm becuase I had NO intention of sleeping past 1PM. Well, then a few minutes ago, the phone rang. I was afraid it was Fed-Ex calling and saying "j00 get no laptop, lolz sorry!!!1one", so leapt out of bed and ran to check the messages, because they LOVE to leave messages and then hide.

Well, I got to sit through two quite scary messages for Fam from her friends. Both the ladies were quite confused. I think one of them didn't know where her daughter was. And then I got this looooovely message from my grandfather. He doesn't seem to realize that we have call forwarding, and not a new number, so he left this long angry message for me along the lines of "We WANTED to invite you out to Disneyland, but since you're living in the apartment and you didn't BOTHER to give us your new number...call us if you get this sometime within the next six months." I was giggling evilly by the end of it. He sounded like such a dumb asshole. SO I tried to call him back and say "if you had BOTHERED to notice that we have call forwarding and you don't NEED a new number, then you wouldn't feel like such a moron. And before you say it, I wasn't avoiding you. I was at WORK." bwahaha.

I'm strangely peaceful. I think I'm going to go shower and then do some laundry. Around one I'll go see if FedEx came through for me and the Ubermachine is home.

7.04.2004

Random contemplation

I have never understood Bob. Bob is the cat that Fam and Unc had when I came to live with them. His full name is Robert Jr, and I think that may be part of the problem.

Bob doesn't like to be petted. He doesn't like to play. He's afraid of literally EVERYTHING. Last week or so when Biker and I were watching Gothika and we started screaming, he literally went AIRBORNE from the bed and ran full speed out of the room doing the scared kitty tail thing.

Bob is also a biter. But he doesn't bite me anymore. I let him do it ONCE. When he bit me, I wapped him upside the head (not hard. never hard) and chased him across the house screaming. So now he leaves my flesh unpunctured.

But since we moved into the apartment, Bob has been a changed kitty. He sleeps in my room at night on my bed WITHOUT getting pissed if I move around. And he's a total attention whore. He follows me around yowling and DEMANDS that I pet him. And he's taken to waking me up so I'll pet him.

But he still doesn't play, and I discovered today that he doesn't like tuna.

Bob is...an interesting creature, indeed.

7.03.2004

Yep. I am totally, utterly screwed.

It's official.
DOOMDOOOMDOOOOMDOOOOOOOM......

Oh, and I've never seen Footloose, so stop whining about the lyrics. I post what I want. And I thought that was funny.
