Karma.
Well, today started out fantastically well. I ended up 1,600 richer than I thought I would be. The first hour of my morning was literally spent finding money I didn't know I had.
Of course I had to have my share of "fuuuck, I'm rippingmyhairout", too.
So now, though I have been trying to avoid it, I feel I must rant about what has been happening at work.
Monday night we had a really bad storm. My power didn't go out (it flickered and briefly ended a rather fun phone call, tho), but large sections of the city lost power. A lot of people didn't get theirs back until Thursday night.
I didn't think too much of this, tho, since I wasn't affected. Yeah, sure, a few street lights were out and whole roads were closed down due to large trees having fallen down across them, but I figured most people were pretty fine. I get a call on Tuesday tho, while out knife shopping with Rose, and my aunt tells me that my work is powerless. I immediately want to cry. See, Blockbuster can't close. We have movies to check in. If we don't check them in, people get late fees they don't deserve. So a power outage means NOTHING. We still have to find a way to work. And since we'd be there anyway trying to find a way to check in movies, Blockbuster will greedily insist that we also check OUT movies. Manually. By hand. Which means entering them into the computer later. Also, to do manual checkout, we can only rent to people who actually have cash and a Blockbuster card on them. For some reason this simple logic seems to escape people. How the FUCK can we track our movies without your account number? And no, I am NOT going to just trust your ass when you say you rent here all the time. And, asshole, how do you expect us to use your giftcard when we have NO FUCKING POWER? Geez, people are dumb!
So I get to work Wednesday, and luckily we got our power back at 11:30 the night before, but we can't use the computers still, because the computers think it's Monday. See, the power went out Monday night, so the closing shift didn't get to run Daily. See, Daily is the process that balances the computer and processes reports, then gets ready for the next day. If daily isn't run, you can't use the computer the next day. So on Wednedsay night when I came in Daily for Monday had just finished, so we got to continue checking things out manually until Daily for Tuesday was done. Which took two hours.
So now that Daily was done, the computers were technically usable, but before we could start checking out movies, we had to start checking them in. That job fell to me. I got to FOS (found on shelf command-no fees credited to account) the 300-odd movies that had accumulated during the power outage. After that, I got to check in all the ones that had been dropped off from 12 o clock on. It was 10PM at that point. Once all that was caught up, I was able to use one drawer to check people out, and my MOD used the other one to enter in all the manual checkouts. Ever done tax by hand? It sucks, motherfuckers. But we were always within 1 penny of the real price. *mild pride*
Luckily, it wasn't too busy that night, so while the MOD was trying to finish up computer crap, I was running cart after cart of movies. I got about 300 done. Which left another 200 for the opening shift. Which was one person. I left a note saying they could call me in if need be. I could use the money, anyway.
So I managed to get everything straightened, cleaned, and stocked, also, and MOD finished processing the manual checkouts at 11:58. I locked the door, and we started settling the accounts and running Wednesday's daily. We were headed out the door at about 12:30, but then we discover that out alarm had been fried during the outage. It took us until 1:06 to get out of the store.
I did get called in on Thurs, so I went in for three hours and finished running movies. We were all caught up.
Well, then FRIDAY comes. The satellites went down and the computers froze, so it was back into manual checkout mode. And it was busy, and people were pissy. I was also the one who got to process the checouts once our comps got back up because the MOD was new and a total imcompetent under pressure. She was spazzing out during the whole thing, which stressed ME out, and annoyed the customers. She hung up on computer support twice and left me up front to handle everything for at least an hour. Then, at 11:45, instead of helping me fucking straighten and stock soda and do trash, she gets a phone call and talks on the phone for 15 minutes. So I did all the damn closing duties AND caught the store back up, and she just freaked out and smoked a lot of cigarrettes. I am SO PISSED OFF about this. We FIRED D-Rick, why did we get another one?
Feh. That is all.
