Buzzkill.

Big Boss: "What is your hat supposed to be?"
Wren: "It's a panda."
Big Boss: "Did a dye job go badly last night?"
Wren: "I've had this hat for years."
Big Boss: "That's an avoidance question."
Wren: "No, but I am planning on redying my hair on Wednesday after the exam."
Bossman Prime: "Is that in celebration?"
Wren: "No, it's more of a 'yay, I have time!' thing."
Big Boss: "I should get a hat. An enormous pumpkin."
Wren: "Yes, you should."

The office suddenly goes deadly silent. This is a feat, since there are eight people standing three feet away from this conversation.

Big Boss: "What do you think people would do if I wore that around at work?"
Wren: "I think they'd find you quite cheerful."
Big Boss: "Really."
Wren: "Oh, certainly."
Big Boss: "What if someone was running in here, and their child was dying, and they saw you in a panda hat."
Wren: "Then the panda hat would be the least of their worries."

Big Boss: "Wren, I am trying to be as nice as possible about this. Are you having a bad hair day or something?"
Wren: "Big Boss, if you want me to take the hat off, tell me to take the hat off."
Big Boss: "..."
Wren: "I'm taking the hat off."

Ten minutes after I get told I have the apartment and can sign the lease next week.

Recover or repeat?

Sometimes I wonder if I am turning into my family, and that I am never going to be content.

"Oh, I'll be happy if I get my apartment, my boy, and get into grad school."

But what if I'm NOT? Am I happy now? If no, why not?

God, attaching my happiness to goals is so damn stupid. That's what is going to turn me into Fam.

These are words, and they keep happening.

I could count the reasons I want to go to lab on the fingers of a quadriplegic amputee.

4.13.2008

What I go through at work:

Here is what I wrote:

Note: A student called to report a group of five or six students being very loud in Anderson/Langdon quad. One of them is a “flailing naked dude,” and they are creating quite a disturbance. 008 and 007 responded. 0128 The CSOs contacted the students and asked them to be more quiet. Everyone appeared to be fully clothed.
And here is what I should desperately, desperately wanted to have written:
Note: A student called to report a group of five or six students being very loud in Anderson/Langdon quad. One of them is a “flailing naked dude,” and they are creating quite a disturbance. 008 and 007 responded. 0128 The CSOs contacted the students and asked them to be more quiet. Everyone appeared to be fully clothed and free of flail. I suggested my bosses check in the bushes, as we may now have a naked student at large on campus, but they seemed oddly uninterested in tracking him down.

4.11.2008

Hmm.

I think I'm ready to go back to being a brunette.

4.10.2008

I want to be in bed. So!

Basil and Co 138

In which Wren discusses her VAGINA.

Seriously. And, because I am polite, there is spoiler text. :D

About this time last year I went on medication for bipolar I disorder. About a month into that, we realized that my birth control pills, that I had been on for three years and loved so very much, were no longer going to function properly thanks to enzyme competition (I will not wax poetic here involving enzyme sites and uptake rates.) Now, I am not actually on birth control for the sex. I'm on it to deal with yet another medical disorder which causes the lining of my uterus to thicken and cysts to develop in my fallopian tubes and other such ridiculously wrong nonsense. Biologically, this translates to vastly irregular periods that are very painful and involve a lot of blood. A lot. of blood.

So, I'd gone through that in high school, and was pretty used to this "yay, my nethers are behaving normally! :D" Unfortunately, in all honesty, it was is more important for my brain to be behaving normally. My psychiatrist went "oh, it's fine, we'll just find some other sort of birth control."

And thus began the long and often scary quest I have fondly titled "How Many Bizarre Things Can I Stick in My Vay-Jay-Jay?" (My personal favorite was the plastic ring I was supposed to just wedge up there for three weeks at a time and ignore.)

Unfortunately, plastic ring or pill, they all were working with the exact same enzymes that were no longer available thanks to the bipolar disorder medication. My psychiatrist's response? "Just use condoms." My response? "I'm thinking that's a bad idea."

And then I had my first real period off the meds. No one died, luckily, but several pints of ice cream bore the brunt of my rage. "Fuck this," my newly-sane brain said, and my rather pissed-off poon agreed. So off to the gynecologist we went! (Which is anatomically logical, but still amusing to say.)

I explained my problems to her, and her response was "Don't worry about it! We deal with this all the time. We'll just give you an IUD!"

For the record, crotches wince.
But, after some explanation, things settled down a bit. They're not made from copper anymore, but a nice, innocuous plastic that secretes progesterone. I get it put in and can leave it be for six years, and that's it. Even better, there is a good chance I will stop having periods completely. Granted, it is still a T-shaped piece of plastic just chilling in my uterus, but better that than babies.

How could I say no? I'll spare you the details of its insertion. Know simply that I am NEVER having children and walking was the only thing that was painless for four days.

My housemates (who also have vaginas, or at least like vaginas enough to talk to me about mine) quickly dubbed my IUD Gandalf-- "YOU SHALL NOT PASS." Trust me, all the parallels between the bridge, the Balrog, and any possible joke involving orcs have been made, so shut up. (Also, you're welcome for that image. There's spoiler text for a reason!)

Gandalf and I didn't get along at first. I was told I might have "some spotting" for the first two months, but nothing prepared me for the constant existence of blood where blood should not be. Three months. Three months of me going "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, VAGINA, GIVE UP!" Or, "THE SWORD JOKES WERE METAPHORICAL, GANDALF." At this point the rats still lived in the bathroom, so these outbursts garnered multiple pairs of beady-eyed stares. More than once I considered taking the damn thing out and just getting an ablation.

But! But! It's finally paying off! I've not had a period in two months, which makes me beyond happy.

Unfortunately, I discovered last night that while I may not actually bleed anymore, I still have a sort of PMS where I sacrifice chocolate ice cream to the random craving gods. With a diabolical frequency.

All in all, though, I'd say it's worth it.

*devours pint*

Sorry, I usually keep my gaming dorkage separate, but I need opinions.

Pop over here, read the question, gimme an answer in the comments, then forget I even asked.

Thanks!

In 24 hours we know if we got the apartment

Me: "I think we have this."
Matt: "Yeah, I agree!"
Me: "It's like this is God saying 'I don't really hate you, I just really like watching you squirm, so here's something nice to squirm in.'"
Car: *silence*
Me: "Oh, that was wrong."
Matt: "So, do tell!"

Post Flood

When I was in high school, I took washable blacklight paint and attacked the blades of my fan. On each one I painted a stripe of a color, making each blade 's edge either red, yellow, green, blue, or purple. When the fan turned on, viola! multicolored disc on ceiling. I used to turn it on, strip down to my underwear, hop on my bunk bed, and write in my journal while listening to Rob Zombie.

Now every time I listen to industrial music I want that fan back.

Ack.

Note to self: Do not ask coworker if he'd make a better dominant or a submissive.
(At least I didn't follow it up with "Want to find out for sure?") <--FILTER IN USE HERE.

Bzuh.

I don't know why, and I don't know how,
but too many people like me right now.

I just want one of them.

Ah-hahaha!

Chewing chips at people in lecture never ceases to be amusing.

They CAN be taught!

Me: "Bet you money my family doesn't return my call today even though I left them a message saying they had to."
Fourive People: "Hell no. I am not insane."

Excellent work!

Epiphany

Matt and I are apartment-hunting today, looking for a place to live for grad school and beyond. I was going about it like a college student, looking for places close to campus.

Then I had an epiphany.

I could have a dishwasher. And a patio. And a fucking fitness center. I mean, we're gonna be here for a while! This isn't a subletting deal. This is us, finding a place to live and having jobs and careers!

So now I am looking at nicer apartments, farther away, that allow pets, and have covered parking. Some of them have gates.

And it's making me feel like an adult. But then I remember I dance in the shower, and I feel slightly less claustrophobic.

Happy Birthday, Anji-kun~

You've got this waiting for you. (That sounds oddly sinister.)

4.03.2008

I might be in love with this lady.

Julia: "I brought you bacon!" :D

Huh.

I got a text at two AM from my *takes breath* high-school-ex-boyfriend's-best-friend's-younger-brother. It says:

"Funny story. My girlfriend and I broke up for real and you and I never hung out over Winter Break."
I've been sitting here trying to figure out how those two statements are related.

4.01.2008

Don't worry. Usually, we're talking about sex.

Me: Oh, damn. Really light headed all of a sudden.

Andy: meds?

Me: uh-huh

Andy: that sucks hun Im sorry

Me: It's okay. My liver's not failing. That's another possible side-effect!

Me: (That's less reassuring than it sounded in my head)

Andy: XD I know you'll be alright

Andy: I feel bad you get sick and hurt so much but I know youll be alright

Me: Thank you. For the concern and the faith. ^-^

Me: I'll be healthy one day. And then I will have a picnic!

Andy: yes!

Andy: and there will be ants XD

Me: Ants > tachycardia.

Andy: Hahahaha!!! You should write that down.

Me: I was considering blogging it.

Bitch.

Wren: "We could always just lie."
Maddo: "Matt is a convincing liar."
Wren: "So am I!"
Maddo: "Yeah, but it's more surprising coming from Matt."
Wren: "...HEY!"
Daryl: *sporfle*

Dear Throat:

We've been over this. You've been with me for 22 years, now. You should know. And, in fact, I think you do know, but are being willfully ignorant.

So I am telling you again.

I DO NOT LIKE TAPIOCA. So please, please, please stop looking like you are coated in it. I am in pain, and have been for a week.

Keep this up. See what happens. (You can be replaced, you know.)

Paradise Lost, as it should have been

Satan: "Dude, God was waaaay stronger than I thought he was! How dare he be all sneaky like that?"
Minions: "So, should we give it another go?"
Satan: "Nah, let's just chill here on Mt. Nipples. I'll be king and stuff and we can decide what pranks to play on God."
Adam: *is made*
Eve: *Is rib*
Eve: *is made*
Raphael: *is gay*
Satan: *is snake*
Apple: *is nummy*
God: "Eeeeeeeeve, what happened?"
Eve: "It's my fault. There was a pretty snake."
Adam: "Yeah, it's her fault!"
Adam: *points at God* "No, wait, it's your fault!"
God: "Um, no, it's your fault. Get out of my Garden."
Adam: "You dumb bint, what did you get us into!"
Eve: "You're the one who went along with it!"
Michael: "Guys, chill. Go farm some dirt."
God: "By the way, you guys hate snakes."
Satan: "Cursssssssssssssssssssses."

I forgot the first half thanks to the meds

Maddo: *hits Wren's right arm, probably with justification."
Arm: *goes numb!*
Wren: "AAH!"
Wren: "AAAAAAAAAAAAGH."
Arm: "<3!"
Maddo: ^-^
Wren: "Stop getting rid of my arms on the highway!"

Meds: No, Mr. Brain; I expect you to die.

Bespectacled guy: "I could tell he wasn't a student. People here tend to dress conservatively."
Policeman: *glances at my green hair and matching jacket* "Uh-huh."

3.24.2008

I am going to miss this house.

The Boys:
Daryl: *quietly, to Matt* "Do you have any condoms? I need four."
Matt: "Er, no, I don't have any."
Me: *from other room* "I do."
Daryl: "You do?"
Me: "Daryl. Of course I do. What color do you want?"
Matt: "..."
Daryl: "I don't care. They're for Campus Films; I'm handing them out with the candy."

Maddo:
*
In car. Goes to set down sixteen-ounce Jamba Juice, mis-judges her own strength, and hurls cup into dashboard.*
Me: "...What just happened?"
Maddo: *crumple*

Sarah:
Me: "All your posters fell down over break."
Sarah: "Oh, of course they did. I have no idea what I am going to do."
Me: "Use poster tabs! They fixed my problem!"
Sarah: "...I don't understand them."

3.23.2008

My latest project.

I am working on a neighborhood of pixiepeople. If you click the link, you'll go to a slideshow of screenshots of the NPCs. That's right. I made custom NPCs. It's a from-scratch neighborhood, and once I am completely done revamping the auto-generated NPCs there will not be a single human in it.

I'm making a lot of custom content for it, too. Special walls, flooring, pillars (the houses are treehouses, so the bottom story is open-air, generally surrounding a tree-trunk.) I'm also working on a new bath set that is made of mossy stone--bathtub, sink, mirror, and possibly toilet.

My favorite part, though, is the singing plant. Pixies should not dance in front of stereos. Rather, I figure they'd be able to listen to the sounds of the forest and boogie away like that. Hopefully, I will be able to add musical notes to it, too.

Don't even get me started on the pixie television. You don't want to know.

So anyway, that's what I have been doing. Once I am done with the neighborhood, I get to upload the entire thing to MTS2 and prosper.

A: Daryl

Daryl: "So if you get the pain therapy done, will you still have the weak hands and everything?"
Wren: "Yeah, but that's definitely better than the pain."
*pause*
Wren: "I guess I'll just have to make sure to never cling to ledges for dear life."
*pause*
Daryl: O_O
Daryl: "WHY WOULD YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?"
Wren: "There I am, gripping the cliff edge with three fingers. I look down. I realize I am fucked."
Daryl: "Like you'll ever be in that sort of situation!"
Wren: "You don't know what I do at night!"

Daryl: "So this is what it's like to go the speed limit!"
Wren: "Why are you going the speed limit?"
Daryl: "Because I didn't want to shift into third gear."
Wren: "Oh, so you're lazy."
Daryl: "Fine, yes. Don't you dare blog this."
Wren: "Okay."

Please do not kill me for downloading Indian Hip-Hop.

Blame the Hinduism exam.

I've spent years putting it all together

There is one place on this planet that currently has a copy of Elysian Fields' Queen of the Meadow album. I have checked iTunes and been told "oh we have it BUT YOU CANNOT HAS," Best Buy ("Where it is?") Amazon, ("What you say?), and just about everywhere else ("HA HA HA.")

And I just found it. Oh, eMusic, I had forgotten how much I love you.

Dear Keys:

I am awake, and it is 3AM. If you really loved me you would not have had me be five minutes late to work because I was scrambling about in the dark searching for you. I grabbed many unsavory things that were definitely NOT you during that blind encounter. One of them may have still been alive.

And the stowing away in my laptop compartment after I give up and trudge off to work on foot? Bad form.

No love,
I have bed head and am not wearing a bra.

Actually, I think she's just never happy.

Receptionist: "Is your hair in honor of Saint Patrick's Day?"
Me: "Yes."
Receptionist: "I think I liked the old color better."
Me: "That's okay."

In the words of Tom and Peter: "Shut down!"

Me: "UPS Security, this is Wren."
Dude: "Hi, Jen, I need to be let into my room."
Me: "Okay, if you call back at, oh, 5:30, we can let you in then."
Dude: "I called at three this afternoon."
Me: "Well, unfortunately you missed admit hours, and my staff are all out doing other things."
Dude: "But this is an emergency!"
Me: "And how is this an emergency?"
Dude: "Um...I'll call back, thanks!"
Me: "Have a good day!" :D

Ex-boyfriend

Matt: you know how I can tell you're feeling better despite the tiredness?
Prince Abubu: I'm just as bitchy as normal?
Matt: I was gonna go with the sarcastic streak is back in full swing
Prince Abubu: Same thing.
Matt: nah, bitchy implies real malice behind it. which at least I hope isn't true
Prince Abubu: If there were malice, you'd know. Bahaha.
Matt: eep
Prince Abubu: exactly.
Prince Abubu: I don't think it would really matter either way, anyway
Matt: no?
Prince Abubu: Nah.
Matt: frick, that was so a fishing "no?"
Prince Abubu: Fishing for what?
Matt: and explanation of why it woudln't mater
Prince Abubu: Malice isn't effective against someone with none of your classes and a different social circle. Therefore, it wouldn't matter! :D
Matt: mm, this is indeed true
Prince Abubu: which is why I thought it was obvious and required no explanation
Matt: remember who you're talking to. obvious to everyone else is about the last thing on my mind
Prince Abubu: riiiight. Forgot.
Matt: and honestly? I'm still a little paranoid that you might be pissed/angry at me. I can't say for sure I wouldn't be =(
Prince Abubu: Okay, I do mean this in the best possible way, but I think your paranoia is a little egotistical.

Wren +Larken +Plant Phys Lab= Death.

When I find my leaf in times of trouble
My professor comes to me
Speaking words of depression:
"Test again!"
Test again, test again,
Test again, test again,
"We need more information!"
Test again.

And when these little sunflowers
Die because of wilted stems
We will get our answer
Test again!

And though they may be inhibited
There is a chance we will begin
To see more photosynthesis
Test again!

Test again, test again,
Test again, test again,
"We need more information!"
Test again.

Test again, test again,
Test again, test again,
"We need more information!"
Test again.

And after hours of darkness,
An LED shines on their leaves.
And we get more information,
Happily!

Happily, happily,
Happily, happily,
We've got our information,
Happily.

I regret this shift.

Dear drunk fratboy:

No, you may not get an escort to Jack in the Box. No, really. Nope, still saying no. Yes, even if you and your five football-playing friends don't feel safe. I'm sorry if you don't like my attitude; I don't like your taste in food.

Piss off,
I have a headache which is bad even if Tom did open my Coke bottle.

3.07.2008

Are we surprised? NO.

Some select quotes pertaining to my new green hair.

Andreas, my Plant Phys professor, after I show up late to class: "Oh, how cheerful!"
Me: "Thanks! It's March!"
Andreas: "Well, all the leaves are turning green too."
Me: "Yep! I'm photosynthesizing!* *jazz hands*
Class: *sporfle*

My old Cell Bio prof: "I just knew the lilac was too tame. Have you shown Andreas?"
Me: "Yep! It's my tribute to chlorophyll."

Mark Martin: "Oh, nice. Stay green, Wren. In fact, tell people you're being sustainable."
Me: "Good one."
Mark Martin: "I'm surprised you don't have matching contact lenses."
Me: "I used to have them."
Mark Martin: "Oh God,"

Random girl in cafe: "Well, you're set for Saint Patty's Day."

Barrista: "Oh my God, your nails match!"
Favorite Barrista: "She puts a lot of thought into these things. Have you not noticed?"

English Professor: "You seem brighter than usual today."

Things I am no longer allowed to do at work: The Dispatch Edition

1) Write that shit has ended when it is time for me to go home. No matter how accurate an assessment it is.
2) Laugh at people who ask stupid questions on the phone.
3) Even if they are clearly stoned.
4) Speak in a sultry voice on the radio.
5) Apparently that actually means no speaking on the radio at all.
6) Take shoes off and wrap self in blanket. The workplace is not a rest home.
7) I am under no circumstances to report in the shift summary that my coworkers have left early to go get drunk.
8) Jokes about garbanzo beans are by definition not funny.
9) Neither are jokes about thumb cuffs.
10) Referring to particularly blathersome coworker as "Mother Goose" is in poor taste.
11) When on the radio, coworkers are not "Red Leader," "Eagle One," "Maverick," "Jackknife," or "Shut Up,"
12) In a similar vein, I am not to suggest coworkers jump off the roof of Trimble when they tell me they are too busy to do an admit.
13) Blasting "Badger, Badger, Badger" is not appropriate use of radio air waves.
14) Even if it is 3AM and boss is asleep in car.
15) It's even less funny the second time.
16) I am not to write smut on the job. Even if it is lesbian smut.
17) If Mother Goose is present, ESPECIALLY if it is lesbian smut.
18) Blasting Mindless Self Indulgence and dancing in the middle of the office with the doors and windows open is not allowed unless the bosses aren't around and I'm too quick to get caught.
19) My coworkers are neither "my darlings," "my pretties," "my precious," or "my bitches."
20) Neither are they the legion with which I will take over the world.
21) I cannot watch Disney movies and sing along to all the songs.
22) Vaguely threatening phone calls to the Information Center when they are not doing their jobs will only make the boss yell at me for terrifying my fellow students.
23) Canes do not make me Dr. House. My sarcasm will always be unacceptable.
24) I am not a lumberjack, and it is not okay.
25) My boss is not a lumberjack either.
26) Or the tooth fairy.
27) The office is not a salon. This means no more nail painting. Or toenail painting.
28) Especially if I am chewing bubble gum and listening to Madonna.
29) The Lost and Found jackets are not to be used as bedding for itinerant dogs.
30) I am not to respond to texts received on Lost and Found phones.
31) Fake reports written to my housemates undermine the effectiveness of the Security Staff as a whole. This is why they have never actually received said reports.
32) Access to the security camera system does not make me a spy.
33) Shift summaries are not meant to be "tongue-in-cheek," even if I am just trying to make them less boring for the good of mankind.
34) I am not to willfully withhold admit information to punish patrol workers for being "uppity."
35) I am also not to send them on admits that don't exist.
36) The office furniture is not to be rearranged to suit my purposes.
37) Even if I am trying to combat inauspicious chi.
38) Leaving things out of the shift summary because I am too busy tormenting Tom on the radio is bad and will grant me a snippy e-mail from The Tooth Fair Big Boss the next morning.
39) I am not to leave signs in the kitchen that say "Every dish not done in this lifetime will hurt you in the next."
40) I am also not to label the bathroom air freshener with "USE ME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD D:".
41) Radioing coworkers whom I know for a fact are in the bathroom is wrong and always results in awkwardness.
42) Lovage and Lords of Acid are not proper workplace music.
43) Neither is my a-capella rendition of Zorak's "Kick Your Ass."
44) I am not to put annoying students on hold and then go make tea.
45) I am not to encourage my coworkers to patrol with aluminum bats.
46) Or the cane.
47) Flashlights should not be assembled into impromptu disco balls.
48) Office Sharpies are not for tattoos.
49) Under no circumstances am I to confide that the Fieldhouse lost and found attracts both mold and ants and that articles lost there should be liberated quickly. Even if it is true.
50) In fact, telling the truth is generally a bad idea. Tooth Fairies do not operate well in the frame of reality.

Please tell me how I can have a $40 overdraft charge when there is $500 in my account and my balance never dropped below $97 the day before the charge.

::EDIT::
Two hours, an e-mail, and a bank trip later, it's all sorted out. Hair dye company authorized me three times for one order of hair dye, and the bank went WHOAWTF and overdrafted me even though the authorizations hadn't deducted any money.

So, I now have a savings account and a new checking account. Unfortunately, I didn't qualify for overdraft protection because Unc fucked me over last semester and overdrafted my account for almost $1k.

Fucker.

My car had better last a while longer, is all I am saying.

If I was capable of care, I'd know whether this was a good or a bad thing.

Took a Valium at 10:30 pm so self could pass out before work. Woke up at 2:40 and realised I didn't care that I was awake. Am now at work in pleasant state of limbo.

Also have forgotten to put on a bra, but thanks to mother's yellow helper, do not care. Maybe that's what spurred bra burning. Women were taken off the drugs and realised they hated the damn contraptions, which they no longer had an excuse not to wear.

Will ponder when again capable of hate.

::EDIT::
Fucking bras.

S.T. Strange stars in The Mummy!

THIS. IS. NOT. HOMEWORK!

[/Leonidas]

Well, I got bored and hopped onto the tutorial section of Mod the Sims 2. I am now creating a custom career that revolves around zookeeping, and I have another one in the works for my Mafia families. I'll post the text when I am done.

Someone put me out of my misery with a sedative, please.

I am looking at an $800 paycheck this month.

Which is good, since I still have to pay for more grad school apps. The rest is going to pay for comics Dark Uncle wants me to read, bills, and the Ball-less Wonder's surgery. That's right. Percy got snipped. :D

It has been a weird day. I woke up strangely motivated and went and finally finished my clam paper stats. I was thrilled because now that was done, all I had to do was write my results and discussion and the paper would be complete. I head home, load up my flash drive...and cannot find the paper.

Cue nervous breakdown. I open every document on my flash drive, both computers, and my two back-up drives to make sure I didn't save it under another name. I am crying, I am hyperventilating. Visions of hours of time wasted dance through my head. I call Maddo and tell her I want to die. What does she do?

She calls her father, who has excellent advice. I do a full-text search of all the files on my computer and find a copy hanging out in my temp files. Instantly, I am thrilled. My brain, quite confused at this point, interprets this as "whee, now is the time in which we faint," and I have too go have a lie-down.

So. Here I am at work, with a finished paper in front of me. I have a headache, but I never have to look at clams again.

One more assignment, and I am finished with my incompletes.

The Benny has landed

We got a call at 11:00 last night telling us Benny was in Seattle. So, naturally, we road tripped up and got him. Was home at 3AM (the rattery owner of ROUS is very nice), set up his cage, and collapsed.

Woke up this morning, did introductions with S.T. and the ladies. Not a hitch. Even S.T. just went "eh, alright." I think he's still young enough to slide under the hormonal radar. When it was time to go back to cages, Benny tried to run into theirs. So, we may have him moved in tonight.

There will be pictures when everything has settled down a little and I sort through the hundreds of pictures I took at the zoo. And after I have checked to see if my belladonna have sprouted yet.

Oh, Tom.

Phone: "Hi, I don't know if you know this, but there's a guy on the roof of Trimble."
Me: *ponders* "Kay, thanks for letting us know."
Me: *radios* Base 90 location."
90: "90...er...Trimble."
Me: "Stop scaring the residents."
90: "...Received."

I hate it when things like this happen.

We were given an hour and a half to complete our first exam in Asian Women and Religion. I took thirty-five minutes, which did not make the professor happy. But, I was typing the exam, so it took far less time and fit far more information onto a page. And, the topic was something I am quite familiar with (to put it mildly), so essays required no advance planning and I instantly recalled vocab terms and their definitions.

I spent the rest of the hour waiting for Maddo and wondering if this is how she feels during discussions in Bible and Literary tradition.

The exam was, quite simply put, thirty times easier for me than it seems to have been for anyone else.

They REALLY need to stop doing this to me.

When things like that happen at 5AM, Wren gets a little terrified.

Cannot. Stop. Laughing.

2200 – Smith out. Williams into dispatch.

2210 – Note: A Seward RA, called to report a strange smell that was overtaking the building, but is strongest in the basement. She believes it may be marijuana, and has asked for a patrol to attempt to find the source of the smell. 2245 The smell was caused by the RD’s sage incense. The RAs are going to air out the building, and the RD has agreed to stop burning it.

2301 – EC/CP: McIntyre 008, the Help Desk, unlocked.

2400 – Shit ends.

For the record, that was supposed to say "shift," but I think this is more accurate.

Why am I laughing so hard? That's saved in the permanent files. It's not editable. "Shit ends" is going to be there forever.

New Testament and Exhaustion.

Maddo reads about the Paraclete and sees the word "Parakeet" (Jesus is already present among believers in the form of the Parakeet.) I see the word synagogue and cure on the line below it and come up with "cheetah."

Now, this may be disappointing to you all, but there are neither parakeets nor cheetahs in the Gospel of John. There are, however, two Judases. Judai?

...Jedi!

Okay, I need a nap.

A Sad Wren Fact

I have to use a child's toothbrush because my mouth is too small for an adult-sized brush head to scrub properly.

I think I have no gag reflex out of necessity.

I have new respect for my Asian Women and Religion professor

It never crossed my mind that my being unable to write would disrupt an entire class.

Today, while we were in the middle of a discussion, a girl on the other end of the classroom interrupted the professor and turned to me.
"What could you possibly be typing that is more important than this poem? I can't even think!"

Everyone in the class turns and stares. The professor blinks a few times.
"I'm sorry, what?"
"She has been typing nonstop the entire hour, and it is driving me insane!"

I realize I am the only person in the room with a laptop. "I'm sorry, but if you're talking about me, I have to type to take notes. I can't write."
"I can hear you typing from all the way over here."
The professor looks at her, bemused. "I didn't even notice it. And you're sitting about as far away from her as you possibly could."

I'm pretty upset by this point because I don't appreciate having my health problems pointed out to an entire class of strangers, so I get up to leave. I'm also on the verge of tears.

The professor follows me out and makes sure I'm not mad at her. I tell her I need a minute to calm down and that I understand she is on my side. I head for the bathroom to get myself back together, and she returns to class.

According to Madeline, everyone in the class was either confused or glaring at the girl who called me out. She tells her that I have a disability, and the girl responds "well, how was I supposed to know?"

Well, for one, you could not assume. :/

One of the other girls says "I'd rather be bothered by typing than people who interrupt class with thoughtless outbursts."

The professor returns to the class at this point, looks at the girl, and says "you really shouldn't do things like that." She spends the rest of the class on the verge of tears.

Now that I am calmer, I feel really bad for her. Yes, she shouldn't have done that. It would have been more appropriate for her to talk to the professor about it after class. However, she just alienated herself from every other girl in the room, and that is not going to make a discussion-based class easy for her.

So, I sent her an e-mail telling her I wasn't holding a grudge. She responded with a four-paragraph apology.

Everyone in the class is now acting like my best friend.

Needless to say, I wanted to spend the rest of the day in bed. Instead, I am at work.

My Day in E-Mails volume 2

From: Ryan (Wee Ours Event Coordinator)
To: Wren
Subject: Greetings!

Greetings,

I am one of the weekend event coordinators for Student Development. This semester our goal is to open up the Puget Sound community to fun, new activities. My co-worker, David J. Corcoran, and I have come up with some possible events that would engage students in campus activities. One such event includes a possible "comedy night." Our hopes is that the UT Comedy Sketch and the Comic House would be interested in entertaining the community.

A rough outline of the event resembles something like a comedy club; meaning, food and drinks are provided, for free, and tables will be set up with table clothes and tee lights. Unlike rendezvous, Marshall Hall provides a much larger venue for students to attend. Wee'Ours is able to plan the entire event, except the performance. This is a great way to advertise your group.

If you are interested and willing to perform in front of a larger crowd, please email me back with a response and we can begin planning!

Thanks,

Unfortunately, "Comic" is a noun, not an adjective. While we like to think we are amusing, it is not actually our theme.

Does anyone know the story behind the pile of climbing rope in front of the fireplace? How about the giant garbanzo bean can beside the rope? (I’m actually more interested in this one.)

Thank you for your time.

The bean can was stuck in a tree, afraid and alone. We had to use the climbing rope to rescue it because we are Samaritans like that.

This day is trying to tell me something.

I woke up this morning and found my hair standing at parallels to my head. I decided that instead of fixing it, I'd just put the Panda Hat on. Then I start walking to my first class and discover that I appear to have damaged my left leg in my sleep. Everything from my shin to my hamstring hurts inexplicably.

At the cafe, they have no orange bread, so I am forced to settle for a bagel. This is only interesting because I usually want a bagel and am forced to settle for orange bread. ._.

Then, in class, I am called upon three times in a row for the discussion paper we prepared. I am still unsure why. I was raising my hand and speaking voluntarily and paying attention. What more did he want? D:

Also, Hilary is on campus, across the street from my house. So my yard is flooded with masochistic Democrats.

"Nice recovery."

I am on a roll today.

The winds were angry last night and kept me and Madeline from sleeping. I went to work and was mightily productive, but came home understandably exhausted. We decided together that our first class with Mrs. Replete was not worth being buffeted by the elements, so went back to bed.

I woke up and ambled off to Wyatt to take my final make-up exam (which I pwned. In the face.) On my way back to the house, who else do I encounter but Mrs. Replete? I saw her before she saw me, and instantly began hacking and coughing.

"Oh, did we sleep in today?"
"No," I wheezed, "I'm not actually feeling that well. The only reason I am here at all is to make up an exam from last semester that I scheduled two weeks ago."
"I see. And what about Madeline?"
"She's sick too. That's the problem with living in a house together; we all get sick at once."
"Sounds like you all could use some Lysol..."
"Yes, or orange juice. See you later."

And then I fled. Angrily. ("Wren, it is so ironic that your Buddhism professor is the one that is causing you to accumulate so much Karma.")

Next up comes my Bible and Literary Tradition class. I had the unfortunate luck to disrupt the class by being an idiot (okay, so all I did was make a puppet out of a Hello Panda box and flap it at Maddo).
"Yes, what's going on?" My professor asks, masking her annoyance with a smile.
I think quickly, knowing all she could see was my back. "Oh, sorry, Madeline is trying to write from the board and my head keeps getting in the way because of my hat." (Panda hat.)
There are a few scattered giggles, including from my professor. Madeline murmers "no, it's fine."
I collapse onto the table. "I'll just lie here."
"She's kind of like a Valkyrie, isn't she, always flying into the way," observes my professor.
In response, Madeline rips off my hat. I shriek like a banshee and yank it back onto my head. Staring Man is in tearful hysterics.

And then the class goes on. About a minute ago, the professor winked at me. I think all is forgiven.

Dear wind:

Sod off.

2.06.2008

Yesterday was one of those days.

I was supposed to take my last make-up exam after class with Mrs. Replete, but the professor was not there, so we had to reschedule again. So I went home and ran into a shelf that I've known was there for three years and received an enormous bump on my head. Then I went to work, did grad school stuff, went crazy, and came home. Two valium later, I am in bed.

Twelve HOURS later, I wake up and discover I have slept through all my classes.

*throws up the horns*

Fuck it, I am renaming all my novel characters and picking out a properly English name for the new rat.

2.05.2008

Dear Professor:

Keep picking on me and see what happens. I know more about this subject than you do, and the fact that you still can't tell me apart from Maddo is not a sign that you deserve respect.

I am sick, I am in class anyway, and I know the five fucking skandhas. You don't need to have them told in order. If you want them in order, WRITE THEM ON THE FUCKING BOARD in order.

Thank you for teaching me so clearly about being all replete with very thou,
Wren

She makes my brain melt

I was asked to write discussion questions for my annoying prat of a professor. The chapter I read to write a discussion question for was titled "Nuns and Nature." The question I wrote asked to draw parallels among different religions regarding the importance of trees, and asked if the association of women with trees was peculiar to Buddhism.

She pulled me aside just now and asked me "where I got the material for this question."

The title of the chapter is Nuns and Nature.

Let's ponder this one.

What could you possibly do with seven wings?

ahahaha.

Maddo and I have developed a perfect system for talking in class. She writes down sentences in her notes, and I reply in word on my laptop. It looks like we are both paying attention, but really we are girding our loins for the latest rat inundation.

It's gonna be a doozy.

There is nothing I can say to improve the comedic value of the following sentence:

The ambulance that responded to the alcohol poisoning last night could not take her to the hospital because they locked their keys inside it.

Dear Boss:

No, I am not going to call the Residence Life Director of the dorm you are in at 2:30 AM to ask him where a custodial closet in the basement is. Open your eyes and find it yourself. The hall is not large.

Yet Another New Blog

This one is for a class. I'm supposed to be keeping a writer's notebook. But, I can't write, and have a tendency to lose notebooks, anyway. I'd keep it on my computer, but what if something happened at work?

Thus, I have put my writer's notebook online. Enjoy.

There are other pics, but I shall post them later. Need to head to my last class of the day now.

Well then.

Okay, so having the flu set me back a couple of days homework wise, but I think it's justifiable . I'll be turning in my Plato paper tomorrow instead of today, and Beowulf on Friday. I'm going to talk to my Geology professor about my lab questions today, schedule a time for the ones I still have to make up, and then turn them in on Friday. I also have to call my uncle and get money for textbooks, and turn in my fucking tuition check.

Any free time will be spent cleaning the kitchen and playing obscene amounts of Assassin's Creed and Oblivion.
