The worst thing anyone has ever said to me:

"I honestly think more people than you know like you. I mean, I liked you for a long time but couldn't say a damn thing because I had no confidence I could keep you interested. Your intelligence is more intimidating than your wit, though wit comes with the territory of being intelligent sometimes..."

I cannot explain how horrible this makes me feel.

I know you feel awful, and the fact that you do says something amazing about the kind of person you are. But you shouldn't apologize for your intelligence. You are a friendly, welcoming person, and you've only become more so over the past few years. You don't have to be easily accessible to everyone. You don't have to change who you are because people are intimidated by you. You are always inviting people to spend time with you, including people, and trying to make people feel like they're just as interesting to you as you are to them. You may not be the easiest person to get to know, but few worthwhile people are. I'm sorry this upset you so much.

That Maddo is one smart cookie. Couldn't have said it better myself. Love you, Wren.

Just think of it as a built in screening process for companions. Anyone willing to actually put in the effort to get to know you is worth knowing. Mostly, anyway.

Shit, I don't even know how to keep you interested most of the time and I've known you for a few years.

Thanks, Mike. You always know exactly what to say.

Why does it make you feel bad that someone was too intimidated by you? It sucks that some people choose to be intimidated, but it's really unlikely that's actually because you're intelligent, or because of anything else about you either. It's much more likely that those intimidated are already inclined towards lacking confidence, and you being intelligent is the excuse they're using to make themselves feel bad. You can't be responsible for everyone, and it's certainly unfair to hold yourself responsible for that.
